Ian potter Cultural Trust

A funding organisation is eager to assist emerging craft practitioners.

The Ian Potter Cultural Trust was established in 1992. The Trust aims to nurture excellence and diversity in cultural activities in Australia by making grants to outstandingly talented people in the early stages of their careers.

Grants to a maximum of $5,000 are made to individuals for the support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, community arts, conservation and moveable cultural heritage, crafts, design, literature, music, performing arts, radio, film, television and video, and visual arts.

Grants assist people to undertake a program of international study, or another form of career development. The vast majority of applicants seek funding for travel costs; however a small number of grants are made for the purchase of musical instruments or equipment.

The Ian Potter Cultural Trust generally supports postgraduate, not undergraduate study; and in most instances applications to travel within Australia or undertake formal courses of study within Australia will not be funded.

Further grants for travel are available through The Ian Potter Foundation to employees of organisations with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. For these travel grants, the Foundation requires that the traveller's organisation commit its own funding before requesting a matching grant.

For further information about grants from The Ian Potter Cultural Trust and The Ian Potter Foundation, including how to apply, please visit www.ianpotter.org.au The remaining closing dates in 2002 for applications to both funding bodies are 1 August and 1 November.
